On Tuesday afternoon, December 28th, 2022, a found dog in Davenstedt caused the police, fire brigade and animal shelter to be deployed. The animal, abandoned in a wooded area, was so frightened and aggressive that the fire department’s animal rescue team had to stun the dog to free it. With combined forces, the unharmed animal could be brought to a Hanoverian animal shelter.
According to the first findings of the Hanover-Limmer police station, a walker reported the dog to the police around 3:30 p.m. The 36-year-old Hanoverian found the big white dog leashed to a tree near Lenther Chaussee. The local animal shelter was first notified by the police officers deployed. After the shelter staff arrived, an attempt was made to approach the animal. However, the obviously frightened dog showed clear signs of aggression when it tried to approach it. The animal rescue service from the Hanover Fire Department was therefore requested to provide support. After all attempts to calm the animal and unleash it failed, the animal rescue specialists managed to stun the dog with arrows and blowguns. However, since the sedated dog weighed several dozen kilos, everyone on site had to lend a hand to bring the dog safely to the vehicle of the animal shelter.
The animal is a “Kuvasz”, a Hungarian livestock guardian dog. Administrative offense proceedings were initiated against the previously unknown owner in accordance with the Animal Welfare Act. /aw, desch
