Sparta – Davos 9:2, Excellent Sparta destroyed Davos and is in the sixth Spengler Cup
Sparta got off to a good start right away, when the home team Davos took the lead after only 83 seconds. After an attack behind the goal, Erik Thorell got to the puck, who quickly ran up to the advancing defender Kempný, who sent Sparta into the lead with an accurate shot. Then, although the home team of Pražana overplayed their activity for a while, however, in the 11th minute, Moravčík shot from the blue and Safin skilfully dribbled. Sparta suddenly led 2:0, the otherwise boisterous audience quieted down and watched other Czech chances, which, however, remained unused.
Davos reduced a third of the pool action at the very end – Krutil hit a shot from the blue unluckily, and then the puck from the skate of Matěj Stránský got behind Kovář’s back.
However, the conceded goal did not stop Sparta. On the contrary, at the beginning of the second period, although weakened, she added a third goal thanks to Kempný, when the back completed a block in front of the goalkeeper Senn. And in the next three minutes, Buchtele made it 4:1 with a shot between the goalkeeper’s concretes.
Sparta played full-court hockey, attacked well, quickly transitioned into attack, and Davos just ignored her strength in vain. And so, in the 33rd minute, she struck again, twice. First, the strong Horák succeeded, and 43 seconds later, Vitouch prevailed from close range. He also had a basis in good work in the area in front of the goal.
“We play as a team, everyone takes a shot and nobody chases personal statistics. We forwards help the defenders, they, on the contrary, support the attack and we play offensive hockey, which results in goals. But everything stems from teamwork,” forward Ostap Safin told the club’s website.
The Czech representative at the prestigious tournament continued his figure skating in the final third – Řepík prevailed in the power play after a nice combination and Dvořáček also with a cannonball in the 47th minute.
Davos was resigned, miserable and out of energy. He was reconciled with the ration and maybe he was saving his strength, because on Thursday he has to go to the quarter-finals, which Sparta, on the other hand, avoided thanks to the win, and in the semi he can be fresher compared to his juice. The guests continued their demolition despite the home team’s lethargy, when they also used their second power play, in which Horák burned down.
So Sparta also demonstrates its resurrection at the Spengler Cup, which took place at the beginning of November after the dismissal of coach Pavel Patera and the hiring of Miloslav Hořavý. “It’s great to get out of the Czech Republic and enjoy time together with the boys. On Thursday, we’ll take a day off and everyone will do what they need. We’ll do a quick training session, jump in twice and get the same result,” said Safin.
