Spengler Cup: Canada was also defeated by Davos. Sparta will face a direct fight for advancement to the semi-finals
Hockey players from Davos defeated Canada 2:1 at the Spengler Cup and will face Sparta on Wednesday to win the Cattini group and advance directly to the semis of the oldest club tournament in the world. In the second game on Tuesday in Davos, Sweden’s Örebro beat IFK Helsinki 5:2 and after Monday’s loss to Ambri-Piotta, got the first three points in the Torriani group table.
Davos, in a lineup with national team forward Matěj Stránský, took a step towards winning right at the start of the match. Andrew Rowe opened the scoring just 31 seconds into the game, Leon Bristedt added the second goal at 1:55. The Canadians then caught up, but they only managed to beat goalkeeper Sandro Aeschlimann once. Brett Connolly scored for the third time in the tournament, scoring both Canadian goals against Sparta on Monday.
Striker Elias Ekström scored a goal and two assists during Örebro’s win. Currently the fourth team of the Swedish league, in whose jersey the 20-year-old Czech striker Radek Mužík once again started, scored two goals in power plays, one in a weakening and one in the opponent’s power play. Even IFK’s significant shooting superiority did not help their success.
