Hanover. The 6-1 home defeat of the Hannover Indians against Hamm caused disillusionment. The European Championship continues (Wednesday, 8 p.m.) in the ice hockey league at EG Diez-Limburg. And yet there are three defeats from the past five games at the Pferdeturm and the now clear fourth place – and ensures Dennis Palka.

This is not only due to his good performance. He is currently one of the best Indians, scored the 2-1 winning goal in extra time against Leipzig last week and also fought physically against the looming defeat against Hamm. If you look closely at Palka, you can see a clear resemblance to an athlete known all over the world: soccer world champion Lionel Messi.
comparison not new
“I’ve heard that a lot, a lot of people have been saying that to me for two or three years,” says Palka and laughs. The similarity is already noticeable with his preferred employer: the 30-year-old played for two seasons with the Blue Devils Weiden and faced the Indians in the play-offs in April before moving to the European Championships in the summer. “Clearly, he looks like Messi,” jokes his teammate and younger brother Robin. He doesn’t have the dribbling skills like the Argentinian, but has completely different strengths: “Dennis is outstanding in the corners and always knows where he has to be.”

The Palkas hardly saw any games from the World Cup. But the fact that ice hockey cracks are quite passable kickers can always be observed when warming up in front of the stadium, when the players in small groups skillfully hold the ball up and play a volleyball.
Another Messi
Even if Dennis Palka has often heard the Messi topic, he doesn’t find it nervous. “Oh, that’s all nice and actually quite funny to be caught with a portable athlete,” he says, looking at the world champion.

Does that mean he lost his nickname too? no He is called “Palle” by his teammates. “And we also have another Messi,” says Palka with a wink. By that he means defender Phillip Messing, the defensive giant has the footballer in his last name – plus two additional letters, but it’s a gift.

Scorpions with a home game
The Hannover Scorpions have been playing in the Mellendorf ARS Arena for the first time in two and a half weeks and welcome Herforder EV (Wednesday, 8 p.m.). “I am incredibly proud of my team. It has a strong character,” says Scorpions coach Kevin Gaudet, whose team won the top game in Hamburg 6:3 after being 3-0 down.
