Fjord Line takes ferries to Denmark out of service for four months – E24
During the spring, none of Fjord Line’s skips will operate between Bergen, Stavanger, Langesund and Hirtshals. The background is changing the fuel.
MS Stavangerfjord and MS Bergensfjord will be taken out of service from 8 February to 25 May, writes Bergens Tidende.
It has simply become too expensive for the company to run the ferries on liquefied natural gas (LNG), and thus they have to switch to marine gas oils (MGO).
– During the period the MGO price has doubled, the LNG price has increased tenfold, says CEO Brian Thorsted Hansen to BT.
Customers who have already booked travel or transport and who are affected by the changes will receive a refund. They can also choose to be rebooked or receive a value check.
A total of 36,000 passengers and could be affected. MS Stavangerfjord sails Bergen-Stavanger-Hirtshals, MS Bergensfjord Hirtshals-Langesund. None of the routes will be operated during the period. At the same time, Fjord Line clarifies that Kristiansand-Hirtshals will run as usual from 31 March.
Not until June 17 will all skips go back to normal, writes Fjord Line.
