Antwerp Falafel King awarded as “friendliest restaurant for couriers” (Borgerhout)
Falafel King from Borgerhout has been chosen by Takeaway as the “most courier-friendly business” in Belgium. Couriers who pick up an order there can count on a satisfying waiting area, a chat with the friendly owner, and the occasional tasting. “It’s nice to hear that the appreciation is mutual,” says manager Abed Aljarablen.
Well packaged food, friendly staff and a nice waiting area to rest or warm up during the cold winter months. Those are the three things couriers find most important about the restaurants they deliver. Among the Belgian chains, McDonald’s, Quick and dark kitchen Casper score the best. But in the “independent restaurants” category, Falafel King’s service is head and shoulders above the rest. And that venture pays off. “This prize is really fantastic”, says Aljarablen proudly. “It’s nice to hear that the appreciation we try to show every day for our couriers is also mutual. It is also the least we can do to show our appreciation for the deliveries they make for us through all weathers.”
Kindness pays off
“It sounds logical to pack cold drinks and hot food separately, to put the boxes at the bottom so that they do not fall over and to use well-closable packaging for liquids, but in practice this is not always the case,” says Antwerp courier Jacopo Sbrighi. . “It’s also nice if the staff has a chat and you can come in when it’s raining or it’s very hot or cold outside. Especially if you can also get a drink or something else tasty while you watch. We are therefore very grateful if operators pay attention to this”, he adds.
This service is not only pleasant for the couriers, it also benefits Falafel King customers, Abed believes. “If they can leave relaxed, they drive more safely with our products, so they arrive perfectly. And then they are also friendlier to our customers,” he says. “We also have better agreements with the couriers. They send us five minutes before they expect a message, so we can time our dishes perfectly. So I am shared: kindness always pays off.”
