VIDEO: Vladimir Socor: “Without the external support provided by the current government, the Republic of Moldova would have collapsed”
Without the external support provided by the current government, the Republic of Moldova would have collapsed. The status and population would not have survived the multiple crises that followed the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The opinion belongs to the political commentator of the “Jamestown” Foundation, Vladimir Socor, and was exposed in the show “Ora expertizei” on Jurnal TV.
“The program and agenda of government has been diverted from reform to mere survival. This was due to the pandemic of 2020 – 2021, to which was added the energy crisis of 2022. The government was forced to simply ensure the survival of the population of the Republic of Moldova, temporarily deviating from fundamental reforms. In my opinion, the government has successfully dealt with this situation. It is difficult for the population of the Republic of Moldova to accept the idea that they are managing the situation with the success of the government, because inflation is rampant. From the point of view of the population, it is difficult to understand in these circumstances that the government ensures the survival of the Republic of Moldova and internal stability”, said Vladimir Socor.
The political analyst also added that the state and the population would not have survived these crises without the external funding provided by the PAS government.
“No other leadership, no other party, no other party was able to secure external funding to the same extent as the PAS government and president Maia Sandu did. The president enjoys such high moral, political credit in the West that he has practically secured foreign funding. The small dimensions of the RM have turned from a handicap into an asset. The EU practically begins to take over the economic maintenance of the Republic of Moldova. This would not have been possible in Ukraine or larger countries like the Republic of Moldova. It is an unprecedented success in a situation of multiple crises and it is the merit of the government” Vladimir Socor also said.
As for the external situation, I reiterate that the commentator survives the fact that Ukraine is resisting Russian aggression.
“In the spring, we all feared that Russia could reach Odessa, and if it had, it would have completely destabilized the situation in the Republic of Moldova. The leadership in Tiraspol, which for now adopts a position of neutrality in the war between Russia and Ukraine, would have been forced to openly side with Russia. Ukraine prevented this from happeningc”, said the expert.
