Homeless people and the elderly received a duck and a duck and a small duck for Christmas
In the chapel of Cardinal Baran in the Archbishop’s Thumb in Hradany, people who, for various reasons, found themselves on the fringes of society, gathered for lunch on God’s Day. The traditional event took place in the metropolis for the twenty-fourth time, only because of the coronavirus pandemic, it took place in the premises of the Frantiknskho klert in the previous two years.
The evening meal is full of joy and light, and that is what our guests often lack. When we look at the biblical texts that are read during the Night, they are really full of messages of peace, peace and hope, said the representative of the SantEgidio community, Kristina Koldinsk. Invite people who are long-term members of the community.
At a time when, after many tens of years, we are once again hunting wolves in Europe, we want to convey this message. Each of us should be a creator of peace and those who drink joy and light sweat, what joy and light got into his heart, he added. The community organized a feast for people on the fringes of society this year to celebrate it.
After a drink, the guests were greeted by Prague Archbishop Jan Graubner and the Mayor of Prague 1, Terezie Radomsk. Society is only as strong as those who have it the hardest, she declared.
A small dragon was also waiting for each one
As is the tradition, half-bread with liver dumplings, whole duck with cabbage and dumpling, or pork with potato salad were served. For dessert, there are sweets, grapes and fruit. An evening meal was prepared for each guest.
This year, too, we have a handful of practical ones. For each sweatshirt, epic, la, gloves, sometimes we also have a thermo mug and similar things. Each of the dragons has a specific name, so that everyone has their own, Koldinsk pointed out.
The event was organized by over a hundred volunteers. Some served and worked in the kitchens, others sat down at the festive table together with the guests to create a family atmosphere. Among the volunteers were several women from Ukraine who fled the country with their children from the wolf. The same evening, the SantEgidio community had lunch with them for the Orthodox Christmas on January 7.
The SantEgidio community is a church movement that was born in 1968 as an attempt by a group of students to prioritize compassion for the poor and help them in their lives.
