A Sparta fan threw a pint at me. I was glad that I survived, Souček remembers his first derby
František Straka has experienced a lot in his life and it is no secret that he is a staunch Spartan. It was an even bigger shock when in 2011 he accepted an offer to coach Slavia Prague. Now he returned to this engagement and called it a huge mistake. He also spoke about the very strange end of Letná.
Heartthrob, motivator and extremely emotional personality. These are the words that can be used to best describe František Straka, a former great soccer player and especially a respected coach in the past. However, a die-hard Sparta fan made a shocking move in 2011.
As a coach, he signed up for Slavia, which had huge problems at the time. Understandably, he angered quite a few Sparta fans, but the fans weren’t too happy about him either.
“I blame myself today. I wonder what has or hasn’t changed. It was probably a bit of revenge against Sparta, who slapped me,” admitted by Straka v podcast red card with Tomáš Řepka.
What face are you talking about? It was 2004, Sparta led the league by nine points after the fall, played attractive football, played in the Champions League group, and the emotional coach had to leave Letná.
“You don’t forget that slap. I still don’t know why I got it. If at least someone told me why I had to leave, what I did wrong, I would take it.” Magpie let himself be heard.
Sparta allegedly wanted to accuse him of using drugs. So he had to take a test and because he did not believe that he had not been manipulated, he went to Cologne where international tests are done. “It was the liquidation of the Magpie,” he is clear.
How do I perceive the engagement in Slavia today?
As already mentioned, today František Straka perceives his arrival in Slavia as a big mistake. He didn’t want to unleash hell, he was just looking for a job opportunity. But all hell broke loose.
It even got to the point where he had to endure very unpleasant things not only on the field, but also at Eden and also in his personal life, when fans painted his bar or attacked his family.
“Then I realized what I had done to the Spartan nation. I still regret it to this day and there are situations where I have to be very careful. There are still groups of people who want to tackle me. It was a huge mistake,” Straka is clear.
It is said that he still bears the consequences to this day, when he was sitting in a pub a month ago and around 20 fans ran into him with baseball bats. The situation had to be solved by politics, luckily nothing serious happened.
Among other things, Straka pointed out that he respects the owner Daniel Křetínský and that Jaroslav Hřebík is probably behind his end at Letná.
