In LuxembourgThe longest cycle bridge in Europe executed between Esch and Belval
ESCH/BELVAL – Esch-sur-Alzette and Belval are now linked by a 2 km long cycle path, including 1.2 km of footbridge. The project will have cost 47.5 million euros.
It is a technical feat. The longest cycle bridge in Europe was taken over this Friday by the Ministers of Mobility François Bausch and the Environment, Joëlle Welfring, and the mayors of Esch Georgs Mischo, and Sanem, Simone Asselborn-Bintz. It is now possible to cycle between Esch and Belval, thanks to a cycle path that is 2 km long in total.
A cyclo-pedestrian footbridge “constitutes the centerpiece of the project”, writes the government in a press release published Friday at the end of the afternoon. This footbridge, the longest of its kind in Europe, is 1,200 m long and 4.50 m wide. Raised to 7.50 m high, it also includes two small squares which constitute rest areas. In addition, the landscape has been landscaped over 1.2 hectares on one of the five sections of the cycle path. Stairs and an elevator also allow you to descend from the footbridge at the level of the avenue du Rock’n’Roll.
“This is an axis constituting a crucial stage in the construction of the express cycle path depending on Esch-sur-Alzette in Luxembourg”, commented Minister François Bausch. The works, which began in June 2021, represent an investment of 47.5 million euros. Finally, an exhibition of photos of the project by the artist Eric Chenal is open until January 1, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 1, avenue du Rock’n’Roll.
