Great star Antwerp: “That’s how he should be in Orange”
Antwerp did not miss its restart after the long World Cup break, because in the Croky Cup the Standard went 4-0 through the meat grinder on Tuesday. However, Mark van Bommel still had to puzzle in a few positions, because he was not yet able to buy over his entire core. However, his choices turn out excellent.
In the center of midfield, Van Bommel, for example, had some surprises in store with 17-year-old Arthur Vermeeren and Calvin Stengs. The latter still started from the right, but ended up in a central role after Scott’s early exits and turned out to be the absolute star. The Dutchman started the icing on the cake in the final phase with the 4-0.
Antwerp can hope that Stengs has finally left. “At this level, Stengs is undeniably an Orange international,” says his former youth coach Leeroy Echteld. Gazette of Antwerp. “If Calvin is fit and looking forward to it, he just belongs to the Orange. Then he is also much better than the comparison in his position, such as Davy Klaassen, for example. But he must continue to show this. I hope that Calvin will return to is the right way.”
RETURN
The 24-year-old Stengs already has seven caps to his name with the Orange, after making his debut in November 2019 in a qualifying match against Estonia. He played his last international match in March 2021, after which he disappeared from view. A few months later, however, he moved from AZ to OGC Nice for 15 million euros, but the transfer is not good. After a successful little season in France, he came to the Bosuil in the summer on a rental basis.
