Christopher Lenz – Positive view of the future
The Frankfurt left-back, who is often injured, also struggles with his body and, despite all the worries, is positive about the future.
The intermediate result is: 32:34. In the duel between Christopher Lenz and his body, the footballer has been losing out since he worked for Eintracht Frankfurt. The 28-year-old was only on the pitch for the Hessian Bundesliga club in 32 competitive games, missing 34 games through injury. Numbers that shouldn’t come as a surprise to constant observers of Frankfurt, but once again clearly show what unpleasant times Christopher Lenz has behind him. And it will probably be in front of him again soon, at least if he doesn’t get a better grip on his susceptibility to injury together with the medical staff.
They seemed to be on the right track at Eintracht with Lenz, the native of Berlin, who still regularly and gladly brings you days off at home, made 14 encounters for Frankfurt in this first half of the season. There were only 18 in the entire preseason. In the internal duel for the Filip Kostic legacy on the left, he repeatedly outperformed Luca Pellegrini, who had been brought from Italy.
The impression was made that coach Oliver Glasner favored the reliability of Chris Lenz rather than the fickleness of Luca Pellegrini. In mid-October, the left foot finally experienced his best weeks since the transfer from Union Berlin to Eintracht in summer 2021. He was in the starting XI several times in a row, defended uncompromisingly and justified two goals – one at home against Leverkusen, one in Gladbach. In general: In the 5-1 win against Bayer, Lenz probably made his best game in a Eintracht jersey. The FR judged afterwards: “Boldly going forward in the game. That had a slight hint of Filip Kostic.”
Eintracht: Christopher Lenz had several insights
Yes, Christopher Lenz was really on the right track until the game against Olympique Marseille, his third appearance in the Champions League, when a die musculature went on strike again, this time in the thigh. That’s it with the good form.
It’s not as if Lenz, who is dating actress Gizem Emre, isn’t doing anything about his dilemma. He’s been trying things out for years. He used to be a part-time vegan for half a year, eating small but many meals a day, five to six. Even now he keeps a food diary, does yoga, has his physios take care of him, and puts in extra shifts in the gym. Even during his pre-Christmas trip to New York, he started his days in the hotel’s gym.
Christopher Lenz – This is how the cards stand for the defender of harmony
Lenz has long since taken on the role of the weight room DJ at Eintracht, as he is always there in front of all the other colleagues at work – even in front of his good buddy Kevin Trapp. He only had to break this damned vicious circle once, then he was sure that everything would be fine. Once fit, always fit. It would be good for him.
For the time being, however, the left-back’s cards have gotten worse. He’s training with the team again, but internally he’s faced new competition. Ansgar Knauff, high-flyer on the right, can also do it on the left. If Eric Dina Ebimbe also keeps his shape, the wing tongs Knauff/Ebimbe are promising. But Christopher Lenz remains positive: “If I can build on the form I had before my injury, I have a few arguments in my favour.” Yes, if. (Daniel Schmidt)
