Russia expects the opening of the Lachin corridor in the near future
It has been established in Russia that the resumption of communication along the Lachin corridor linking Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh is taking place in the very near future. This was reported to the UN on December 20 by the representative of the Security Council, deputy representative of the Russian Federation to the world organization Anna Evstigneeva.
“We look forward to restoring the discovered message in the very near future. The Russian side, through the Ministry of Defense, the command of the international peacekeeping contingent, as well as through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has been making all the necessary efforts in recent days to bring the situation in the Lachin corridor as soon as possible. Organized regular contacts with the republican and Armenian assemblies”, – she said.
According to Yevstigneva, it has already been possible to resume gas supply in Nagorno-Karabakh and partially unblock traffic along the corridor.
Also, the Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN said that a visit by environmental experts from Azerbaijan to ore deposits in Nagorno-Karabakh is being coordinated.
Earlier, on December 15, the UN Secretary General António Guterres increased concentration around the Lachin corridor and transit to appeal for freedom of movement.
On December 13, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation revealed that morals are met with a violation of the public order of restoring the movement of motor vehicles along the Lachin corridor.
On the same day, it became known that Azerbaijan was cutting off gas supplies to Nagorno-Karabakh. The information headquarters of the self-proclaimed republic called it “humanitarian and economic terrorism.”
The day before, a group of representatives, who introduced themselves as environmentalists, blocked the Lachin corridor, which is the only road linking Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh. In Yerevan, this step was regarded as a provocation by Baku, which is aimed at creating a humanitarian catastrophe in the unrecognized republic.
On November 11, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry accused Armenia of assembling the Lachin corridor as a result of terrorist activities. In addition, the proposal of the Armenian Prime Minister was officially named Nikol Pashinyan about Baku’s plans to close the Lachin corridor by an experimental deliberate escalation of the situation in the ministry.
The day before, Pashinyan said that Armenia proposes to create a demilitarized zone of Nagorno-Karabakh on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. According to the Azerbaijani government, he intends to close the Lachin corridor under a brief pretext and keep Karabakh in the blockade.
The Lachin corridor is the only road that links Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh.
October 31 at the summit in Sochi at a meeting with the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan agreed to refrain from using force, discuss and resolve all problematic issues solely on the basis of mutual recognition of sovereignty. In combination with the alleged politicians, there was a very active preparation for the conclusion of an amicable agreement between Baku and Yerevan.
