Home defeat against Nuremberg
Drama in the DEL: Löwen lose 0.6 seconds before the end
That’s what you call a last-second defeat: The Löwen Frankfurt lost to the Nuremberg Ice Tigers in the DEL on Tuesday. When the decisive goal was scored, the clock was almost up.
In a bitter way, the Löwen Frankfurt suffered their third defeat in a row in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL). In the 1:2 draw against the Nuremberg Ice Tigers, the decisive goal – the decisive hit – falls 0.6 seconds before the final siren.
The goal of Nuremberg’s Daniel Schmölz had to be checked and confirmed by the team of referees during a minute-long video evidence. Frankfurt’s Chad Nehring (48th minute) had previously equalized the Ice Tigers’ early lead by Dane Fox (3rd).
Löwen Frankfurt: a lot of effort, little return
The lions, who have played a more than remarkable season as a promoted team, also presented themselves courageously and aggressively against the Franconians. However, the big shortcoming was the exploitation of chances: With a total of 65 shots on goal, 34 of which went straight to the goal of Nuremberg goalie Niklas Treutle, one goal for the ESC is definitely not enough.
After all: In the narrow midfield of DEL table the Hessians remain in tenth place for the time being – and thus on a pre-playoff place. Already on Friday (7.30 p.m.) Frankfurt will welcome the ERC Ingolstadt.
