“They miscarried because they were shocked by the lude blasts”: Antwerp police start campaign and ask to share images of fireworks incidents (Antwerp)
Just like last year, the Antwerp Police Zone calls on witnesses of damage from bang fireworks to share images. “Do you have clear photos and videos that can contribute to discovering possible suspects? Then you can upload it via the e-counter. As a campaign, the police distribute a video in which someone explains how an acquaintance had a miscarriage because she was shocked by the loud explosions of fireworks.
Neat Loots
In the autumn, fireworks, and the nuisance that goes with it, regularly appear in the city. However, setting off fireworks is prohibited in Antwerp. In the period between October 1 and January 31, it is not even allowed to have fireworks visible. The Antwerp police closely monitors this, but could use the help of hamburgers.
“Anyone who has relevant images of fireworks that lead to dangerous situations of fireworks incidents where damage has been caused can now view the photos of videos that are more easily delivered to the police,” explains police spokesman Wouter Bruyns. “It is important that the images are of good quality and that all situations involved are clearly visible.”
Witnesses can go to a special page about fireworks via the website of the Antwerp police zone. “This website is only intended for nuisance caused by fireworks. It is not the intention that images of other crimes are provided to the police in this way”, probably Bruyns.
Easy upload
You can send the images directly with a smartphone or computer to the image portal via this link. This supplemented by the place and time of the facts. “Furthermore, the reporter can leave non-binding contacts for the police who still have a few questions.”
All relevant images will be viewed by the police. “If the perpetrators can be identified thanks to the images, legal proceedings can be confirmed,” says Bruyns. Images that are not needed for a judicial investigation are automatically recorded within 30 days.
The police considers that uploading the images does not equate to a report of the facts. “If there is danger to yourself or others from animals, you can still call the emergency number 101. For non-urgent situations, you can contact the Blue Line (0800-123.12) or you can make an appointment in one of our offices .”
This year, the police, fire brigade and city will once again be fully committed to prevention by pointing out the dangers of fireworks. Through a campaign we try to discourage young people in particular from using fireworks. “Fireworks are not only dangerous for yourself, but also for other people and animals,” it sounds in a few short campaign videos. “Don’t just think about yourself and stop setting off fireworks.”
