Six TV stations from Moldova will remain without a broadcast license
The Commission for Extraordinary Situations has suspended the broadcast license for six Moldovan television stations, during the state of emergency. It is about First in Moldova, RTR Moldova, Accent TV, NTV Moldova, TV6, Orhei TV. It is in this sense that it was signed yesterday evening, December 16, by Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița, the president of the Commission for Exceptional Situations, reports IPN.
The Prime Minister mentioned that these media institutions have seriously and repeatedly violated the Audiovisual Services Code, reflecting in a tendentious and manipulative manner events from the Republic of Moldova, as well as those related to Russia’s war in Ukraine.
“After almost 300 days of war in Ukraine, the propaganda in the Republic of Moldova has not contained, in fact – it has intensified. In the situation where not only an energy war is being waged against our countries, but also an information war, we have the responsibility and even the obligation not to protect the citizens and the country. The purpose of the decision is to secure the informational space in the country, to eliminate manipulation and propaganda, corrupt and particularly dangerous elements, especially in the difficult period we are going through”, wrote Natalia Gavrilița in a post on Facebook.
Economy Minister Dumitru Alaiba, a member of the Commission, wrote that “these entities are instruments of the Russian Federation’s war machine in our country” and that “freedom of expression has nothing in common with the freedom to deny war, to promote hatred, propaganda and lies”.
The television station TV6 called the CSE’s decision “an unprecedented attack on freedom of expression, on editorial freedom, on the freedom of journalists.” The representatives of the TV station appealed to the international community, the diplomatic body accredited in Moldova to give a correct assessment of this decision in accordance with the standards applied at the international level.
The respective stations rebroadcast on the territory of the Republic of Moldova mostly the content of some TV stations from the Russian Federation.
Information is circulating in the public space that most of the television stations left without a license are under the control of Ilan Şor, president of the party that bears his name, the fugitive who is wanted nationally and internationally, sentenced by the first court to 7 years in prison for involvement in ” the theft of the billion” and under the sanctions imposed by the USA and Great Britain.
The decision of the CSE enters into force starting from December 19.
