Through Prague 200 km/h: When an animal ambulance helped to transport a canine blood donor
Horning beacons and speeds reaching almost 200 km/h in places. Even this action-packed journey to donate blood can look like, the protagonist of which was the three-year-old female Anežka. In case of an urgent need, an animal ambulance can come to help. And not only for those pets who are currently fighting for their lives, but also for their helpers – for example, blood donors.
But let’s start right from the beginning. Anežka, who weighs around 30 kilos, is a cross between a golden retriever and a wolfhound. Andrea Tipplová saved her from an unsuitable family where she had very bad conditions. “We adopted her when she was eight months old. Until then, she didn’t know toys, a bed… just nothing. But she soon understood how to properly handle dog things,” recalls her owner. Like many others, Andrea did not know at the time that even dogs can become blood donors.
“We learned about the fact that even dogs donate blood by accident. My colleague and I were discussing various topics in the office and suddenly we came to the question of whether dogs also have blood types. I threw a query into the search engine and a link about donating blood popped up. And so Anežka and I jumped into it.”
Today, thanks to her very calm nature, Anežka already has three successful subscriptions. But her mistress won’t just forget about one of them.

An ambulance honking all over Prague
“It was a Friday evening, sometime after eight o’clock in the evening. We were alone at home and I had wine during my free evening. It was such a girls’ night out. Then my phone rang, it was the man from the vet, who is always there for collection. He apologized profusely for disturbing me like this in the evening, but that they urgently and urgently need Anežka’s blood. I admitted to him on the phone that unfortunately I had something to drink, so I can’t drive, and it’s quite a long way to their clinic. That I’m sorry, because otherwise I would very much like to help them. And the gentleman suggested that if he sent an animal ambulance for me… So I replied that I would not hesitate to do so and send the address. I completely sobered up at that moment, it was quite an adrenaline rush,” Tipplová laughs.
“Rescue ambulance Pet-Medic veterinary services she arrived within 15 minutes and there were two young ladies sitting in front. It was a passenger car in the station wagon version, but there was only one seat in the back and the other was a bed made for animals all the way to the back, over the entire trunk. It was taped up pretty much like our ambulances – as the ladies explained to me, it’s to make it easier for people to give priority to them. First they checked if my dog didn’t mind the car journey and fast driving, I confirmed that she would be calm. I wasn’t sure about the lighthouses, but I thought she might be used to it, because there is always something honking here in Žižkov. We drove through Prague, then through the tunnel at a speed of 200 km/h and Anežka slept on the way,” adds her owner.

Saving a life is an indescribable feeling!
This was followed by a medical examination, shaving of the neck in the place where the vein was to be punctured, and the collection itself. Anežka managed it bravely, as well as the previous two.
The dog we went to rescue was after a car accident. Anežka was already the second dog that gave him blood. After the collection, I went outside to wait because the ambulance girls were so amazing that they even drove me home. The man from the collection came to me, so I asked him if everything went well and if the dog could handle it. He replied yes, thanks to us. I cried with emotion. It was wonderful, the feeling can’t even be described. We just saved the dog!! The two of us and the whole team of doctors. This is amazing,” concludes Tipplová’s narration.
