The Čardáš Princess returns to Liberec
In Liberec Theater FX Šalda prepared another of their premieres for the end of this year. On Friday, December 16 in the evening, a fun operetta full of catchy melodies by the Hungarian composer Emmerich Kálmán will be performed in the premiere performance Čardáš princess.
The libretto of the operetta originally bore the title “Long Live Love”. Emmerich Kálmán began composing his most famous work in Mariánské Lázně, and since its premiere, the title has been among the world’s most successful.
The operetta premiered in Vienna at the Johann Strauss Theater on November 17, 1915. The operetta is widely popular throughout Europe, especially in Hungary, Austria, Germany and the former Soviet Union, where it was adapted into a popular film. After all, countless film versions and recordings were made all over the world, which proves that it is undoubtedly Kálmán’s most successful work.
The story takes place in Vienna and Budapest at the beginning of the 20th century. On the wings of popular waltzes and spirited Čardás melodies, the love story of a dancer and a Shantan singer and a noblewoman is depicted. The composer managed to musically portray various human emotions, weaknesses and desires in an engaging way. The work still wins the hearts of thousands of classical operetta lovers around the world.
Now, after 18 years, the Čardášová princess returns to the stage of the Šalda Theater in Liberec under the direction of Magdalena Švecová. Conductor Josef Kurfiřt is behind the musical staging, Tomáš Kypta created costumes and David Janošek set design. Even the casting of key roles promises a pleasant musical-theatrical experience. She alternates with Tereza Mátlová in the role of Sylva Varescu Miroslava Časarová, presenter of Radio Classic Praha. Josef Moravec / Dušan Růžička, Michal Bragagnolo / Jakub Hliněnský, Veronika Kaiserová / Stanislava Kozubíková, Blanka Černá, Jan Ježek / Oldřich Kříž will also perform on the Šalda Theater stage, Marian Mičjar, Milan Hlavsa, Martin Stránský, Pavel Pavlas, Dario Grbič, Jiří Sehoř and others.
The first premiere is scheduled for December 16, the second two days later. This year, the first rerun is also planned for December 27. More will take place next year.
