Vienna Cammarota is in danger: bitten by stray dogs on its way on foot
The bell walker, the most famous in the world, needs treatment and is about to return to Italy
“I am considering returning to Italy temporarily to then resume my journey from where I would leave it. I was bitten by stray dogs, I need a health check. Now I am in Tbilisi where I was welcomed by the Italian Ambassador”
Vienna Cammarota, 73 years old, ambassador of the Italian cultural association, Archeoclub d’Italia, had left on April 26th from the island of Lazzaretto Nuovo in Venice, destination Beijing! Vienna arrived in Tbilisi after crossing: Slovenia, Serbia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Turkey, on foot!
The goal is to tell the Silk Road in the contemporary era
“I have arrived in Tbilisi but I am considering returning to Italy to then return to Tbilisi and resume the Silk Road from where I will leave it. In Tblisi I was welcomed by the Italian Ambassador, Enrico Valvo, but the Embassy informed me that it was impossible to continue the journey on foot towards Azerbaijan. They told me that I could only get to Azerbaijan by plane. But where is Marco Polo’s Silk Road anymore? Along the way I was also bitten by dogs and they probably had rabies.
I tried to cure myself and I managed to get a first anti-rabies protection, but I need a health check.
And here in Georgia there is an aloof, unwelcoming people. For example, I had to get the anti-rabies vaccination and for this reason I went to a clinic and tried to ask where the hospital was. I had to speak through the machine translator as there are very few people in Georgia who speak English. I was practically kicked out! I couldn’t speak as they didn’t know English and I don’t know their language.
I wasn’t treated, I walked away really mad at them. I think badly of Georgia and the people.
Only 0.1% are kind and hospitable. For now I’m in Tbilisi and it’s snowing. I visited the Peace bridge designed by the Italian Michele de Lucchi. Peace already…..”. This was stated by Vienna Cammarota, 73, environmental hiking guide of assoguide and ambassador of the Archeoclub of Italy in the world. Vienna left on April 26th from the Lazzaretto Nuovo, a site managed by the Archeoclub D’Italia of Venice and crossed on foot: Slovenia, Serbia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Turkey, Georgia. The goal is to reach China on foot by December 2025, to do it by walking to tell the story of the Silk Road in the contemporary era.
The dream of Vienna would only seem to be interrupted, but we are in the presence of a tenacious woman.
“To reach Tbilisi I stayed in Mtskheta. This city has asked me to promote a beautiful initiative based on cultural exchange with Naples. Mtskheta intends to twin with Naples in the name of the Georgian footballer Khvicha Kvaratkelia, born in Tbilisi a few kilometers from Matskheta. I had the opportunity to meet the mayor of this city who is asking for the possibility of twinning with Naples and also of creating an official ceremony in the presence of the Georgian champion of Naples. Mtskheta is one of the oldest cities in Georgia – continued Vienna Cammarota – and is located in the historic region of Kartli not far from Tbilisi. This city was also the capital of Georgia between the 3rd century BC and the 5th century. AD And it was in Mtskheta that the Georgians converted to Christianity. Being an ancient city, Mtskheta has an important cultural heritage, which was also recognized as a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 1994. This is the case of the Svetitskhoveli Cathedral which dates back to the 11th century or the Jvari Monastery from the 6th century, the Fortress of Armaztsikhe of the III c. BC and again of the Acropolis with buildings from the first millennium BC and numerous places of worship which have more than 2000 years of history”.
