Despite the snow and ice, there were no accidents.
On the coldest autumn day of this year, young and old runners started the 46th New Year’s Eve Run in Zurich. “This year we caused around 18,000 registrations,” says media spokeswoman Sarina Langloh when asked by 20 minutes. Although this would still be almost 20 percent fewer registrations than before Corona, it would be around 4000 more than in 2021. There were also no accidents – despite snow and icy spots. As Langloh explains, the routes were salted again on Sunday night and before the start.
Even top athletes at the start
Children and adults ran in a total of 34 individual categories and two overall categories. The last two categories had the most participants: 1721 started in the women’s fun run, 2734 in the men’s. The parent/child category born in 2016 and younger was also popular, with a total of 1046 participants starting.
With Helen Bekele, Fabienne Schlumpf, Dominic Lobalu and others, there were also a few top athletes on the starting list. Looking back on a successful event, Langloh says: “It was just great to see how the participants were able to walk freely again after such a long time.”
