A month’s worth of precipitation fell in one day in Debrecen – with photos
The experts had to remove 200 cubic meters of water at the Köztemető due to the intense rain, which caused disruptions to traffic as well.
As before we broke the news, due to the weather situation since Saturday, the number of firefighting interventions in our country has increased. At six o’clock on Sunday morning, the help of firefighters was waiting for the help of nearly twenty places across the country to remove trees that had fallen on the road due to the windy weather, or because of the damage caused by the heavy rainfall.
About 200 cubic meters of water were removed at the Public Cemetery
In Debrecen, for example, a month’s worth of precipitation fell in one day, which gave all the professionals a lot of work.
Yards and basements were flooded on Lőtér Street – they pumped for several hours here on Sunday before they managed to clear the area. Firefighters had to move to several points in the city.
The large amount of precipitation also made public transportation difficult: there was 30 centimeters of water on the road at Közteő, Benczúr Gyula Street on Sunday, so trolleys and buses avoided this road section for a while.
In response to our question, the head of the city department told us that after a problem came to the attention of the Debrecen municipality, they started operating immediately with an external contractor to help.
– We assigned it to many places, including gate 2 of the Közmemető. At the junction of Ady Endre and Benczúr Gyula utca, 200 cubic meters of water had to be removed.
This was sucked up with a special tank truck, then transported and discharged elsewhere – pointed out Zsombor Gábor.
