Toulouse: surge of solidarity around a Georgian family threatened with expulsion
A rally was held in front of the administrative court of Toulouse against the expulsion of a Georgian family in an irregular situation, who came to France to provide care for one of their children, with a disability.
Twenty people gathered in front of the administrative court of Toulouse this Wednesday, in support of “the Z family”, which arrived in France in 2021 in the hope of offering an education adapted to one of its two children, Daniel , 5 years old, with a disability. After having had their asylum application rejected, and having suffered several refusals for a request for support for a sick child, this Georgian family is now subject to an OQTF (Obligation to Leave French Territory). She was thus summoned before the administrative court.
“He needs help”
In the procession, the members of RESF 31 (Réseau Education Sans Frontières), as well as the parents of pupils, friends and teachers of the Viollet Le Duc school, in which the two Georgian children are currently educated, say “no” to the expulsion of the Z family, “who are doing everything possible to provide the necessary care for Daniel” . “This child is currently being followed in a medico-social structure in Ramonville. This care, as well as inclusive education, are a whole lot of things he could not benefit from in his country, ”says one of the members of RESF 31.
“Daniel needs human help, an AESH. He is making tremendous progress in terms of learning. He is integrated into the class group, the other children help him, we see that he is fulfilled. It is important that he can stay in a class where he can be accompanied in this way, ”reports the little boy’s teacher.
In the absence of a translator, Giogi, the father of the family, expresses in English the hopes he cultivates in this meeting. “I want to explain to them why we can’t go back to Georgia. Life there is very difficult for Daniel. There are no schools or teachers to take care of children with disabilities. The streets, the buses, or even the metros, are not suitable either ”.
The decision of the administrative court of Toulouse should be rendered within a fortnight.
