On Wednesday night, December 7th, 2022, four perpetrators gained access to the grounds of the Hanover Zoo in a previously unexplained manner. There, the four men stole a buggy, which they use to drive downtown. Once there, they also stole an excavator parked at a construction site. After a subsequent chase, the police managed to apprehend two of the four perpetrators.
At around 11:30 p.m., the men entered the zoo grounds in an unknown manner and stole a buggy parked there. They then drive the vehicle to Hanover city centre. The four perpetrators then went to a construction site on Schmiedestraße and also stole an excavator parked there. The theft was monitored by a local resident who later informed the police. The two stolen vehicles could be driven up to the market church. At first, the perpetrators tried to evade control and ignore various stop signs. They then got out of the vehicles and continued to flee on foot. Two of the four perpetrators were provisionally arrested as part of the search measures that were initiated immediately. The personal details of the two fugitives were determined as part of the investigation. The four men are a 20-year-old from Seelze, a 19-year-old from Pattensen, and two 19- and 20-year-old Hanoverians.
The four young adults are now being investigated for, among other things, a particularly serious case of theft, dangerous intervention in road traffic and driving without a license. Witnesses who can provide information about the perpetrators or the course of the crime are asked to contact the central Hanover police department on 0511 109-2820. /aw, desch
