“I have been dealing with health problems for a long time. And even though we’re just learning about SPS, we already know that it’s this rare disease that’s causing all these seizures,” the singer announced, continuing, “Unfortunately, these seizures affect every part of my daily life. Sometimes I have trouble walking and it makes it impossible for me to use my vocal cords to sing like I’m used to,” said Dion.

Emile Moukheiber of the US Johns Hopkins University, which has a clinic dealing with the research and treatment of SPS, said that the muscle spasm syndrome, which often causes severe pain, instability and causes falls.
“Spasms can be triggered by strong emotions, such as being startled, or by cold temperatures,” Moukheiber told CNN.
SPS affects about one in a million people, twice as many women as men, and there is no known cure. Therefore, doctors only alleviate its symptoms with medication. The origin of the disease is also unknown, although it has certain characteristics of an autoimmune disease.
“Many patients with SPS also suffer from anxieties that go hand in hand with the physical disability that the syndrome has,” said Scott Newsome, Moukheiber’s colleague at Johns Hopkins University.
“Every day I work with my sports therapist to regain my strength and ability to perform again. But I have to admit, it’s a struggle,” Dion told fans.
