In Belgium, labor migration remains reserved for an elite
The Indian engineer or computer scientist will have a much better chance of obtaining a single permit than a Congolese nurse or a Senegalese mechanic.

LLast month, the Secretary of State for Asylum and Migration, Nicole de Moor (CD&V), flew to Congo. Son but? Convince the locals to use the legal channels to come to Belgium, rather than trying their luck by asking for asylum, the Belgian reception network being saturated and the chance of obtaining a rather low refugee status, at least for the Congolese who do not come from a conflict zone.
The opportunity to look at the figures for 2021 in order to check whether it is really possible for a foreigner to come and settle legally with us by getting a job. This was indeed the case for more than 5,000 people who were issued a single permit last year, not counting renewals. The Secretary of State and employers have also recently prospered from the 20% increase over two years, knowing that more than 200,000 jobs remain to be filled in Belgium.
