Paris, PleasantLille, Strasbourg, Grenoble, BordeauxMarseilles, Toulouse, Montpellier… and Lyons. Everywhere in France, scenes of jubilation erupted Tuesday, December 6 in the evening after the historic victory for Morocco over Spain in the round of 16 of the Football World Cup 2022.
Just after the end of the penalty shootout, hundreds or even thousands of excited supporters flocked to Place Bellecour in Lyon (2nd arrondissement). Horns, cars rushing in, flags, vibrating engines, cries of, flags: the Moroccan fans celebrated. Even more football fans than in the previous match.
Traffic paralyzed, the Guillotière bridge blocked
- The joy of Moroccan fans blocked traffic around the Place Bellecour. At 10 p.m., the Guillotière bridge was still completely paralyzed. Traffic on the quays of the Rhône remained difficult both to enter and leave Lyon.
Supporters climbing on billboards and vehicles, dangerous driving, pedestrians mixed with traffic: the scenes of joy and celebration mixed with the ambient disorder.
Access to Place Bellecour was controlled during part of the evening to avoid new scenes of jubilation.
After 10 p.m., no overflow was observed in Lyon, unlike other major French cities.
