The police have arrested six people in Amsterdam in riots after Morocco supporters took to the streets to celebrate the victory over Spain at the World Cup in Qatar. An arrest was made for throwing fireworks at infections, the police reported on Twitter.
“Violence against insurance companies and allies is unacceptable. We strongly oppose this. We remain alert to rioters who ruin the atmosphere,” said the police. It was restless on Tuesday evening at Mercatorplein in Amsterdam-West, among other things. The ME swept the square clean after it was announced that people had left. Earlier, the police reported that heavy fireworks were set off and people danced on cars.
Amsterdam reported earlier this week that the Mercatorplein in West and Plein ’40-’45 and part of the Burgemeester de Vlugtlaan-West in Nieuw-West have been designated as a security risk area, which means that the police may perform a preventive body search. There was also a water cannon on standby and the police in the capital worked together with youth workers, street coaches and neighborhood fathers and mothers.
The ME also had to intervene in Rotterdam, The Hague and Utrecht because rioters did not respond to events to leave.
