Hanover. A new basketball court is being built on the Spielfelde in the Linden district of Hanover. Under the motto “Racing tires become living space”, the tire manufacturer Continental has announced that it will recycle around 200 of the racing tires it produces in order to make them available free of charge as rubber paving stones.

“We are very pleased to support the project with paving stones made from our recycled tires,” said Enno Straten, Head of Strategy, Analytics and Marketing at Continental, at the groundbreaking ceremony. The tires come from the first Extreme E season, a racing series for SUVs with electric motors. The aim of the show is to illustrate the already visible consequences of climate change in affected locations.
The company Regupol, which has specialized in the processing of recovered elastomers, takes care of the recycling from the round tire to the elastic paving stone. Continental claims to cover manufacturing as well as transportation and construction. Landscaping Kretschmer is responsible for the conception and implementation of the basketball court.
Many cooperation partners for the sustainable project
In addition to the city of Hanover, the association for intercultural work in Linden (ViA), Serve the City Hanover, Hanova and the sports club 07 Linden – on whose premises the so-called half-court (a basketball court with only a basket) is being built – the Germany-wide sports project ” BasKIDball” involved in the construction. The project is aimed at children and young people and wants to “overcome borders with the help of sport”.
