Violin and cello in deep understanding. New CD from Prague and Munich
Violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter and cellist Pablo Ferrández present a dialogue between their two string instruments on the new recording. The Czech Philharmonic also performs on it.
This week we present a new album released in November by the company Sony Classic. Its protagonists are two string players: a violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter cellist Pablo Ferrandez. This young Spaniard released his debut album with Sony Classical last year, and the famous German violinist has been his musical mentor for many years: Ferrández has, among other things, been through her ensemble Mutter’s Virtuosi.
WITH Czech Philharmonic under the baton Manfreda Honnecká both artists recorded a live performance of the familiar here in Prague in January 2022 Double concerto for violin, cello and orchestra in A minor Johannes Brahms. This recording forms the first half of the new CD. On the second, we find the chamber music of Brahms’s Fatal Woman, Clara Schumann – her excellent Piano trio in G minor. This 1846 composition is a seminal work by the German composer and pianist that influenced the piano and her husband Robert’s later famous trios. The recording of this trio was already made in a studio in Munich, and Anne-Sophie Mutter invited her regular collaborator, the pianist Lambert Orkis.
