The Government pays a visit to Monaco Telecom against the backdrop of a giant outage that occurred last week
The meeting made it possible to better understand the problem and to question the reliability of the generators.
Last Tuesday, Monaco Telecom experienced an outage that affected the entire Principality, preventing many people from accessing mobile and fixed communications, and disconnecting Monaco for a few hours. Following this technical incident, due to a faulty generator, the Government went to the headquarters of the Monegasque operator to understand the origin of the problem, so that it does not happen again.
Thus, on Thursday 1 December, the Minister of State, Pierre Dartout, and the Government Counsellor-Minister for Equipment, Céline Caron-Dagioni, met the President of Monaco Telecom, Etienne Franzi, and its Managing Director, Martin Peronnet .
During the interview, Pierre Dartout wondered ” on the general reliability of the generators that may be in operation in the Principality, at a time when we may be using them more regularly in our electricity supply. »

Objective: total fiber connection
This meeting was also an opportunity to discuss the deployment of fiber in the Principality. Less energy-intensive and more reliable than the copper network, fiber also has the advantage of being much faster. Yet 800 individuals and 2,500 small and medium-sized businesses are still synchronized to the old network. A problem that public authorities like Monaco Telecom want to solve soon.
