Christmas market in LuxembourgA skating rink without ice, but with pleasure
REMICH – This winter, cities like Remich have found an alternative solution to ice skating. On a tested synthetic track.
“We came to Remich because the capital has no ice rink on the Christmas market this year. The setting along the Moselle is very beautiful”, rejoices Lindsey, 41, accompanied by her little Niamh, 4 years old.
To save money in the face of the energy crisis, Luxembourg-City has dispensed with an outdoor ice rink. Other cities have opted for an alternative. Mamer opted for a roller track, a choice based on user experience. “Another argument that motivated our decision is that a synthetic ice rink requires maintenance that our municipality could not”, comment the communication officers of the City. Differdange or Remich, on the other hand, have chosen a synthetic ice rink.
“It’s great for the planet! »
“It measures 300 m2 like the one we usually had and can accommodate 60 skaters simultaneously. Usually our ice rink was installed from December 1 to 31, but this time it is from November 25 to January 8, ”explains Carole Sitz, from the Tourism department of Remich.
“It’s great for the planet!” agrees Lindsey. On the use side, “there is less grip than on ice, it is more difficult to propel yourself”, notes Andrius, 35, who came from Germany with his children. “It’s less painful when you fall,” notes another skater. What is not worse because the first steps of the users are rather hesitant. Mia, 11, misses the ice cream a bit. Unlike Marie, 4 years old, who is “super happy. The little ones do not see the difference”, comments his mother.
