A 14-meter nativity scene from today is on display near Prague. It doesn’t lack a devil like Superman or a light girl
“We have contemporary nativity scenes, or at most from the end of the last century,” museum owner Vladimír Glaser says when talking about nativity scenes.
Nativity scenes are unique in that they bring Czech Christmas traditions to the present day.
Vladimír Glaser created most of the figures, as well as parts of the nativity scene. “I have been creating Nativity scenes for 14 years. I add something every year. Now there are over 300 figures,” he explained.
The visit to the “Nativity of Stories” is definitely the most eye-catching. “The main story is the birth of Jesus and the angels around announcing it and the shepherds coming,” said the owner.
“In Czech nativity scenes, there are typical donors who try to reach Jesus and bring him a gift of their own. But they experience various stories on the way, for example they trip or are chased by a goat,” adds the museum owner.

“But not all people went to Santa with a gift, someone went the other way, and they also have to have a place to go. That means we also have a hell here where these people could end up. There are also ways to get there. There might be a drunkard or a light girl,” added the owner of the museum.
“There is also a superdevil, he flies around and watches who behaves how. It is inspired by Superman, and has a wave from his hair. But it has Czech, more aerodynamic dimensions,” Glaser explained to Novinkám.
The nativity scene also features the figure of the well-known Radegast or Glaser’s acquaintances and neighbors from the area. The carver also received some figures as a gift, which makes the nativity scene more unique.
“Perhaps the stone at the top of the nativity scene is a gift from Sněžka, while the sea is decorated with stones from the river Rhine, directly from the place where the ashes of Master Jan Hus were dumped,” boasted the owner.

The collection is also expanded by advertising nativity scenes from the period of the First Republic. At that time, they took away valued customers from the shops.
There is also a nativity scene from the Albis company, where Baby Jesus is presented with candy, or another where he receives gifts from Kolínská chicory.
The museum is also an experience place where you can try out some Christmas Eve customs of our ancestors.
Using traditional methods, you can look into the future to see what your future partner will look like, widowed ladies can find instructions on how to find their ideal counterpart, and you can also try everything right away.
