Thessaloniki: Christians and Jews in the same city – Exhibition at the Archaeological Museum – News – news
The third cycle of the exhibition “In the same city – Christians and Jews in Thessaloniki” is organized by the Georgiou Konstantinidis Archive in collaboration with the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki, the Israelite Community of Thessaloniki and the Foundation of the Hellenic Parliament for Parliamentaryism and Democracy and has the theme trade and entrepreneurship in the co-capital.
It concerns the city’s economy, which during the period in question was based on international exchange, small-scale local and regional trade and self-consumption.
A wealth of historical evidence, such as contracts, bank accounts, professional advertisements in the press, and other items, highlight the great impact that the Christian and Jewish community had on the city’s economy.
The photographs, documents and objects from the G. Konstantinidis Family Archive and the collections of the Jewish Museum of Thessaloniki offer the visitor a rich anthology of material that gives life to the people who made Thessaloniki a trade center and export gateway of the Macedonian hinterland.
The inauguration will take place on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at 19:00 at the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki.
On that evening, the catalog of this modular exhibition will be presented, which began in March 2022 at the Jewish Museum of Thessaloniki with the theme of culture and society, continued in May of the same year at the Philoptochos Brotherhood of Men of Thessaloniki, with the subject of education and sports and concludes at the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki with trade and entrepreneurship.
