According to Johnová, Prague is increasing its capacities for the care of the disabled. ‘Not enough,’ objects Uzheniya | iRADIO
What should be the concept of social care for the people of Prague? Prague Sobě and Pirates criticize the ODS and the Spolu coalition for wanting to stop the modernization of care for the medically and mentally disabled and return to the times when the disabled were placed in facilities outside the capital. The guests of the Pro and against program were councilor Milena Johnová (Praha Sobě) and representative Alexandra Udženija (ODS).

“Prague has the capacity, but it is not in compliance with the law on its territory, and that is the main problem. We are also dealing with what these capacities look like, i.e. their inappropriateness,” says Milena Johnová, councilor for social policy, on Czech Radio Plus.
The representative of Prague and the mayor of Prague 2, Alexandra Udženija, rejects the accusations from the Pirates and Prague Self. “But if we want to make a transformation and make it possible for people who want to return to Prague, then we also have to say where. And that’s the main dispute: I can’t disturb something if I don’t know where to go with these people.”
“As the first councilor in the history of Prague, I did a great deal to create the capacity of care services for those with a medical disadvantage in Prague,” says Johnová.
“In four years, despite the pandemic, we managed to build other services and start a lot of projects that I would like to hand over to my successor, for example we have specific plans for facilities that were created by 2025,” she adds.
However, Udženija claims that the approved medium-term plan for Prague and residence capacities for social purposes until 2022 is not being fulfilled. “We can see that we have a capacity of approximately minus one thousand seats in all facilities at the moment. We have people who are waiting for stays within Prague, as well as those who are outside of Prague.”

“I’m glad that it was said that I should have done more, which I could have done if there were more conditions for it,” John explains. Udženija promises that the future Prague coalition will push for the building of community housing. “This is a modern approach to social care. But we have to have capacity in the capital city, so they have to start building quickly or look for suitable premises.”
Prague is said to have created dozens of places in sheltered housing in recent years, which are set up by non-governmental organizations. “Capacity is constantly being filled, despite all the complicating conditions,” Milena Johnová (Praha Sobě) defends the actions of the adolescent Prague council in matters of social welfare.
“It is completely inadequate. Four years were wasted and much more could have been done,” criticizes the municipality in the field of electoral care for physically active and mentally disadvantaged people in the past term of Alexander Udženij (ODS).
