Hjulmand gets harsh criticism in Denmark – unsure if he wants to continue – Dagsavisen
The Danes are way down after Wednesday’s 0-1 loss to Australia. It sent the Nordics’ only World Cup team home from Qatar with only one point and one scored goal in three pool matches.
The Danish football president Peter Møller was quick on Wednesday and said that the association is not going to start the search for a new national team coach. He repeated his support for Hjulmand on Thursday.
– We will continue to extend. We are happy with Kasper and hope he will be with us for a long time, said Møller.
Wheelman commented:
– The time is not right, the day after such a disappointment, to draw conclusions. I take nothing for granted, said Hjulmand.
Nicklas Bendtner, with a past both on the Danish national team and Rosenborg, reacted strongly after Wednesday’s WC exit
– It is a failure like no other that we do not progress from this pool, but instead finish last. I have a completely empty feeling in my body, writes Bendtner in Extra Magazine.
However, he supports national team coach Kasper Hjulmand and believes he is still the right man for the job.
Commentator Søren-Mikael Hansen in Politiken disagrees with Nicklas Bendtner.
– The responsibility for the embarrassing Danish effort during the World Cup falls back on Kasper Hjulmand, who chose the past and community over good form, he writes.
