The winners of the competition are chosen online by schoolchildren from the proposals they sent to the organizers. This year, there were 380 stories that competed in the categories Saving a human life, Helping others, Helping the elderly, Collective help, Helping nature, Good idea and Help on the net. This year was the 18th year of the project organized by the Children’s Deed of the Year Foundation

The prize for saving a human life was won by 11-year-old Eliška Rojková and 12-year-old Michaela Štěpařová from Kolín, who helped a friend. He had an accident on the field, during which he injured his head and started bleeding. “Together with my best friend and my friend Alex, we were playing babu. Alex just had it, but out of nowhere he grabbed a stick and ran after his friend. However, the stick got stuck between two trees, he fell to the ground and hit his head. He started bleeding profusely that morning, Alex panicked. I don’t know how we managed to do it, but my friend and I started acting,” Eliška described. The girls, one of the girls ran for help and the other helped the boy to transport the ambulance.
The Award for Helping the Elderly also travels to Cologne. Eleven-year-old Natálie Keltnerová took on a lonely senior citizen on crutches in a stampede at the train station and helped him get out of the crowd. “I think it’s a matter of course that people help each other and treat each other with respect,” Natália commented on her behavior.
Children help throughout the country and abroad
The award-winning Natálie Jahnová from Prostějov is also involved with the help of seniors. A ten-year-old girl and other children from the school she attends organized a competition for seniors. In the competition, children collect recipes from seniors, from which they will be a collection.
Fifteen-year-old Petr Jaroš and fourteen-year-old Tomáš Brádle from Truntov received the award for a good idea. They built a dam across the Úpa River to catch the waste in the water and facilitate its removal. The boys now regularly come to the site to clean. The winners of the Help to Nature category, Adam and David Venglář from Ostrava, also cleaned up waste from nature. The brothers decided to clean up the mess in the forest where they go for walks. By their action, they would like to inspire others to do the same.
Thirteen-year-old Adriana Górna won an award for helping others because, despite her fear of deep water, she went for an inflatable ring that swam little girls while on vacation in Croatia.
Petr Jirout won the Michal Velíšek award. He was awarded for saving a two-year-old girl
Fourteen-year-old Tereza Svobodová and Adéla Ryšává from Trutnov helped a classmate who got into a bad party. The girls recognized risky behavior in their classmate on Instagram. They discussed their observations with their class teacher and then decided to spend more free time with the girl. They helped her and won a new friend themselves in this year’s award competition for Help on the Net.
Special prizes were awarded to 15-year-old boys Tomáš Sztuchlík for providing first aid to his aunt, and Aleš and Matouš Krchňák for organizing summer games for pedestrians and cyclists about the attractions of Střední Haná. Jan Havlásek, Marie Hudečková, Agáta Gracová, Eva Hudečková, Kateřina Kurovská and Filip Urban received an award for helping Ukrainian children who immigrated to Ostrava in connection with the war conflict in their homeland.
