Salzburg Golf Club: golf courses taken over by the Murhof Group
There are some changes in the management of the Salzburg Golf Club (Rif, Eugendorf, Kaltenhausen, Fuschl, Linz-Feldkirchen). Thomas Neureiter appointed Honorary President.
HALLEIN. As reported, the founder of the golf course in Rif, Thomas Neureiter, sold his shares in Open-Golf to Count Johannes Goess-Sarau’s Murhof Group in Styria five years ago. The second Rif founder, Christoph Schilchegger, now followed this step and thus there is a new management that Goess’ son-in-law Karl Czernin has taken over as general director. Neureiter and Schilchegger have shaped golf in Salzburg for 30 years, built the golf course in Eugendorf after Rif and took over Feldkirchen, Fuschl and Gut Kaltenhausen near Mattighofen.
New Honorary President
At last week’s annual general meeting, Thomas Neureiter is now resigning from his position as president, he is succeeded by Christoph Schilchegger, who has put aside all operational agendas. Hallein Thomas Neureiter was promoted to Honorary President and remembered the early days 30 years ago, which were characterized by many ups and downs. In the beginning, the commitment to golf was ridiculed, but the development work is worth it and today Salzburg can rightly be called a golfing country. “We have trained more than 12,000 people interested in golf in Rif since it was founded and played a key role in the golf boom in the country,” says a visibly proud honorary president.
Numerous investments
The Open Golf courses are all in an exceptionally good condition due to many investments and the good work of the greenkeepers, but ongoing maintenance work is still necessary. In Eugendorf, for example, the bridge over the Eugenbach is currently being renovated, the renovated terrace of the golf restaurant is being completed and the secretariat and golf shop are being renovated. A new tenant was found for the restaurant in Rif last year and the terrace was covered. For the coming year, works manager Karl Czernin plans further investments, “but they are not yet ready for a decision.” And the massive price increases have also left their mark on the Murhof Group, so membership fees have to be increased by 10%.
Largest golf provider
Thomas Neureiter is certain that golfers have found a reliable partner in the Murhof Group. The group operates 22 golf courses and three hotels in Austria with 300 employees, plus around 20,000 members and 150,000 day visitors. 10 golf courses are operated in Germany. This makes the Murhof Group the largest golf provider in Europe.
