Toulouse: who is Cavez, the painter who offers his paintings in the street?
Six months after his debut, the 25-year-old Toulousain lives off his passion. The painter takes the opportunity to give some of his paintings in the street.
Florent Caverzan knows it, life is unpredictable. “If I had been told that I would live from my paintings a year ago, I would not have believed it,” he smiles, sitting in one of the armchairs at the entrance to the Ensenat Coaching Capitole sports hall. , where his paintings are exhibited. With a double degree in tourism and communication, nothing predestined him to become a painter. Or maybe the few shoe customizations he would make in high school, “to make some money.”
It was once his diplomas in his pocket that the Toulousain recommended “taking stock” of his life. A gap year, which he spent working for a moving company. And one evening in April 2022, returning from one of his exhausting days at work, the 25-year-old young man was happy with an announcement on a social network to exhibit his paintings at a music festival in Marseille.
He lives from his passion
He applies, without having any ready table. So Cavez, of his pseudonym, takes a canvas, a brush and lets his imagination express itself. She gives birth to lines, curved and salient and points. An abstract style, which looks like “graffiti on a painting”, according to him. “After the exhibition at the Delta Festival, everything went very quickly, says the painter. Ensenat Coaching Capitole contacted me to exhibit for free at their place and on Instagram, orders began to arrive.”
His style, which has diversified since his beginnings, marks. Each week, he sells between two and five paintings, from 100 to 600 euros each. In six months, Cavez managed to live from his passion. And when he does not paint for his buyers, the artist does it for those who “love art but who cannot afford works”. Several times a month, the painter places a painting in the streets of Toulouse with the message “Help yourself” added above. “The last time, a person recovered the canvas in two minutes,” says Cavez. The artist, in perpetual quest for novelty, will offer furniture customizations in the coming weeks.
