Hanover. When he’s not explaining the World Cup in Qatar to football fans in the ZDF studio in Mainz, Per Mertesacker likes to be at the training camp. He has already laced up his skates three times and gone puck hunting on the ice of DEL-Klub Löwen Frankfurt.

The world champion from Pattensen is preparing for the biggest ice hockey day that has usually taken place in his home country. “On December 17, the Scorpions will play against the Indians in the stadium in Hanover,” he recently explained to millions of viewers and presenter Katrin Müller-Hohenstein on ZDF, “there will be a celebrity game in support of my foundation, I’m really happy thereon.”
