VIDEO. Toulouse: fourteen metropolitan sportsmen say “Stop violence against women and girls” in a video clip
Solicited by the town hall of Toulouse, fourteen athletes commit and say “Stop violence against women and girls!” in a video posted on Youtube.
Posted on the Youtube platform for the National Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, November 25, the video does not collect, for the time being, tens of thousands of views, but it has the deserves to drive the point home in the fight against violence against women and girls.
The town hall of Toulouse and Toulouse Métropole, committed against this scourge and which are piloting numerous actions and systems, have solicited the voice of fourteen top athletes in Toulouse, Blagnac and Colomiers.
The clip broadcast during the matches
The communication operation is not only visible on Youtube, because the clip is broadcast on the social networks of the two communities and during sports meetings (pro and amateurs from the 37 municipalities of the Metropolis). “Players will also wear an orange t-shirt with the message when they enter the field on certain matches”, specifies the town hall of Toulouse.
Mohamed Mimoune, a 34-year-old boxer from Toulouse, ex-European welterweight champion who has won 22 out of 27 fights, claims to have “said yes directly” to participate in this communication campaign. “Obviously, I am against violence against women,” he said. It spreads my heart to participate in this clip, I am rather radical on the subject, it is so serious what is happening: I believe that we also need real sanctions for the perpetrators of violence. »
“It’s important to talk about it”
For basketball player Isabelle Strunc (Métropole Basket), the fact of participating is experienced as “a commitment”, without “feminist ulterior motives”. “It is so important to communicate, we must continue to fight against this violence, confides the athlete. As long as we do not know the figures, we cannot realize the extent of the phenomenon in France. »
The statistics are indeed staggering: “in France, a woman dies every three days under the blows of her spouse or ex-spouse”, denounces in the video Florence Doumesche, player of the French wheelchair basketball team. “80% of women with disabilities have been victims of violence,” recalls rugby player Sofiane Guitoune (Stade Toulousain), etc.
