Thessaloniki: A municipal police officer is accused of attempted rape of an extradited woman – Apologized and released on condition
Municipal policeman is accused of having tried to rape a young foreigner, who was handed over to the love market on Giannitsson Street, in Thessaloniki.
Following an investigation by the Internal Affairs Service of the Security Forces, the 39-year-old was charged and summoned to testify before an investigator. He was finally released on condition and for his referral to a trial decided by the competent Judicial Council.
According to complaint made by the woman of Bulgarian origin, the incident occurred in the summer of 2018, during which the accused was serving as an external guard in a penitentiary in Northern Greece. The alleged attempted rape, at the threat of his service weapon and glock, as reported by the complainant, seems to have been preceded by a dispute between them because, among other things, he wanted to meet in an apartment, while she insisted on meeting him in an abandoned . building of the area.
In his apology, the 39-year-old – who later assumed duties as an employee of the Municipal Police (outside of Thessaloniki) – denied what was attributed to him, characterizing false complaint. Allegedly, he did not claim that the woman reported him out of revenge, blaming him for previously bringing her in during a prostitution sting, which he apologized for was untrue.
Prosecutor and investigator they decided to be released with the restrictive conditions of being banned from leaving the country and appearing once a month at a police station. After criminal proceedings were brought against him, he was put on holiday from his service.
