Singer and actor Jan Tláskal convinces himself that there is no honey hanging on a cross in RockOpera Prague, reprise after reprise of Maria Madonna. He plays the role of Jesus and at the end of the play he looks at the audience from a height of several meters. In addition, he amazes the audience by the fact that he still manages to sing the entire song.
RockOpera Prague heading towards the peak of his season. On Wednesday, December 14, he will say goodbye to the audience for a while with his last theater performance of the year, Maria Madonnawhich the theater placed before the holidays because of its theme.
The story tells about the life of Jesus Christ from the point of view of his mother Mary. It presents selected parts from the Gospels, including the Nativity, which is the centerpiece of Christmas. “The birth of Jesus is portrayed by dance in our opera by the young talent Tristan V. Holt, who comes from a family of excellent dancers. His family has been involved in this discipline for a long time in America,” says executive director, librettist and singer Pavla Forest.
According to her, RockOpera Prague wants to create a Christmas atmosphere with a reprise of Maria Madonna, even though the story ends with a crucifixion, which is related to Easter. “The crucifixion is one of the most intense scenes of this opera. Honza Tláskal, who plays Jesus, hangs several meters above the stage and performs a literal stunt. He also amazes the audience by singing the entire song at the same time,” adds Forest, who plays the title role.

LILITH ESCAPE FROM EDEN, WILL GIVE BIRTH TO DEMONS ON NEW YEAR’S EVE
However, RockOpera Prague will not say goodbye to the audience for long with Maria Madonna. On New Year’s Eve will return with a concert performance – the premiere of Lilith: Mother of Demons. The opera complements the theme of Maria Madonna and at the same time represents its opposite. Lilith tells the story of the first woman, older than Eve, who surrenders herself to Adam and God in paradise, runs away and begins to breed demons with other beings.
Pavla Forest and the artistic director of RockOpera Prague Milan Steigerwald they stated that they wanted to take the opera in a horror spirit. “Lilith is often perceived very negatively. But we look at her story differently. In Eden you could be either on the side of God or on the opposite pole. Lilith resisted, not wanting to have sex with Adam in a missionary position because she didn’t understand why she should share under him when they were both made of clay. Adam tried to rape her, and that’s why she fled,” explained Forest, adding that the upcoming opera will deal with the ever-current theme of the freedom of a human being. The title role will be played by the current frontwoman of the band Precedens Daniela Langrová, Lucifera the voice of metal Arakain Jan Toužimský and Czech rock legend Kamil Střihavka will play Adama.
“New Year’s Eve at the RockOpera is always an exceptional experience. We play completely new songs as well as our biggest hits. Then follows the program in the foyer, which continues until the morning,” invites Pavla Forest and reminds that the RockOpera Europe festival, which began in June and which will be organized by the capital city of Prague in connection with the Czech Republic’s presidency of the Council of the European Union, will also culminate with the sylvester.
“In addition, our theater can help you decide what gift to give under the tree to your loved ones. On the website www.rockopera.cz you can choose anything from our e-shop or buy a gift voucher that can be used for any performance of RockOpera Prague in the following year,” concludes Forest.
