E40 towards Brussels closed until Monday morning, bridge in Erpe-Mere (Binnenland) closed
Friday evening, the E40 towards Brussels was closed from the Merelbeke complex to Erpe-Mere, where a railway bridge is being demolished. The highway will remain closed until 5 a.m. Monday morning. “Through traffic on the E40 towards Brussels travels from the Zwijnaarde complex via the E17 towards Antwerp and via the N16 from the R0 and A12/E19 to Brussels. It is still possible to drive to the E17 via the R4 via the Merelbeke complex,” reports Wegen en Verkeer.
“The ramps from the complexes in Merelbeke, Wetteren and Erpe-Mere to the E40 towards Brussels are closed. Local traffic towards Brussels that normally uses the Wetteren and Erpe-Mere complexes is routed to the Aalst complex via the N9 and the Siesegemlaan (R41).
In the weekend of November 19, the bridge of the Merestraat over the E40 was also demolished, so this weekend the railway bridge is in the area. “Infrabel will first remove the voltage from the overhead lines of the railway line and then put them down. The road surface, crash barriers and noise barriers will be removed from the bridge. The demolition of the first bridge girders will begin at 10 am on Saturday morning. The demolition works will last until Sunday morning. After starting we met with the disposal of the debris and the clearing of the tracks. During this work, the temporary bridge will be built on the other side of the E40, which traffic in the direction of Ghent will have to cross from November 28.”
