There is a difference between what you maintain in Turkey and what you expect at the end of the Istanbul Convention.
Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Turkey Nikolaus Meyer-Landrutstated its decisions regarding the limitations of Turkey’s withdrawal from the Istanbul Convention. soil, “Unfortunately, the law has some components. There are some passengers between what the law protects and what the Istanbul Convention expects. Those differences also need to be addressed.” said. Ambassador of Sweden to Ankara Staffan Mikael Herrstrom if, “Women’s credibility, a social structure, expresses its results. It’s not just the economic content. Reasoning conversations are required. I think it applies to all men here. We all have protection. We must support gender transitions and women.” he said.
The EU Delegation to Turkey held a panel this evening at Bilkent University as part of the 25 November International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. Okan BayulgenHead of EU Delegation to Turkey Ambassador Landrut, Sweden’s Ambassador to Ankara Herrström, clinical psychologist and psychotherapist Prof. Dr. Ceylan Das and Assoc. Dr. Ilknur Yuksel Kaptanoglu joined. The communication rules at the panel were as follows:
“The fight against women is a global issue”
Ambassador Meyer-Landrut: “I want to talk about why this discussion is important for the EU. For the EU, the fight against women is a global issue. It’s a global problem. And it’s an issue with our member states, not about preaching around the world. We need to take measures. We are waging this fight globally.
You mentioned the Istanbul contract. I specified this as standard. We were deeply saddened when Turkey withdrew from this Convention. Deciding to do this. Because it provided the security units and this increased the protective measures and protections. Yes, there is a law in Turkey. Good deeds within the law. So they have to be so that they can provide protection. From my point of view, I would like to say that unfortunately there are some provisions in the law. There are some passengers between what the law protects and what the Istanbul Convention expects. Those differences also need to be addressed.
When we look at the basis of the struggle against women, we should consider gender and women’s behavior, we should consider the economic, social and political field. As the EU, this is already part of our programs.”
“Restrictions from male convictions of violence”
Ambassador Herrström: “At that time, only 30 percent of women in Sweden were in employment. A woman’s economic independence is very important in terms of both gender inequality and gender-based violence. If a woman is economically independent, she can say, ‘I have income, I have resources’. This really brought a huge change. The participation of women in employment caused a great change.
I’m talking about Sweden, a country of success, but I can’t say everything is very good, there are also terrible examples of gender-based violence. But the participation of women in the economy brought a big change.
I, as a man, are restrained from being condemned by pregnant men. Of course, not all men use violence. But men practice, many men have to go. In fact, gender inequality should also change because it benefits us.
Women’s societies, a perception of society, its results are given meaning. It’s not just the economic content. Reasoning conversations are required. I think it applies to all men here. We all have protection. We must support gender transitions and women.
We are in close cooperation with Turkey in the fight against terrorism. including Finland. But I would like to mention the benefits beyond the economic limits of gender in this center. The World Bank uses the phrase ‘social consumption consumption smart economy’. This is really true. Because compared to those who are structured at the societal level, the impact of the higher predicted place in female employment on growth is quite strong.”
“We have to say that violence is a violation of human rights”
Assoc. Ilknur Yuksel Kaptanoglu: “We have a law in Turkey to fight against his family. Law No. 6284 came into force in 2012. It is also possible to make important developments and legal regulations in this field. On the other hand, when we talk about this issue, we are not talking about the Istanbul Convention. As you know, we exited the Agreement in 2021, of which Turkey was the first signatory.
Sexual, intense violence, stalking and child marriages are also forms and forms of violence. New concepts of violence also came to the fore. We can say digital violence, we can say cyber violence. One of the forms of violence that occurs among the dating complaints. Giving the password of their mobile phone or giving the password of their account is actually violence. This is also seen as the meaning of loving each other among children. It is important to be aware of this.
