AWARDED STUDENTS OF THE SAN BERNARDINO SCHOOL OF SIENA
First prize to Sara Bruno, second prize to Caterina Carli and third prize to Aurora Niccolucci
The Cardini Law Hall, thanks to the precious collaboration of the Dean Simona Ugolini and the teaching staff, was presented last November 23, full of second and eighth grade students from the Istituto Comprensivo 2 San Bernardino di Siena, who, as of As usual, they have participated in the annual Peace Poster Contest held by Lions Clubs International around the world.
Further thanks should be addressed to the Rector of the University of Siena, who granted the use of Aula Cardini and to Prof. Federico Lenzerini, professor of international law at the same university, his delegate. The professor illustrated the role of international organizations on peace, as well as informed those present on the “Network of Universities for Peace”. He complimented the students for the awareness shown on such an important and decisive concept, in such a difficult moment due to Covid, the war in Ukraine and around the world.
The President of the Lions Club, Luca Betti, thanked the boys and teachers who participated in this year’s theme, entitled “Driving with Compassion” and highlighted how the Lions organization, with a humanitarian fund, has always been committed to social, has been pursuing the theme of peace and understanding between peoples for thirty years.
Professor Lavinia Balata focused on the meaningful and current meaning of the terms used “guide and compassion” and in their relationship aimed at building such a difficult process, such as that of building peace. You underlined how it cannot be considered just a document to be signed, but must be consolidated every day, above all by learning not to hate and to forgive because the opposite of peace is hatred. Therefore peace represents a very difficult challenge to learn and preserve from childhood, on a journey together and with mutual listening. Obviously it does not prevent the dialectic and social claims and relies more on the ability to initiate processes for the search for truth, justice and the recognition of the rights of all, without exception.
Doctor Andrea Sbardellati, as moderator, after the speakers, passed the floor to the students, the true protagonists of the initiative, who played and sang an exciting piece of music on the theme of peace, followed by the reading of the boys, authors of poems of deep meaning and other interesting writings on the subject.
Ursula Balata, President of the Lions Club Siena Peace Poster Commission, thanked and encouraged them to be the protagonists of their future and above all not to forget the common experience, built on this journey together, in their San Bernardino School. Together with the President of the Club, Luca Betti, you proceed to the award ceremony, handing over a participation plaque to the Principal Simona Ugolini and, subsequently, the following are sent:
1st prize to Sara Bruno, 2nd prize to Caterina Carli, 3rd prize to Aurora Niccolucci, while two further prizes are sent to Bernardo Spinosa and Amarildo Babuni.
