Sensational news about the much talked about captain’s tie
The much talked about “One Love” captain’s armband has created a storm in the World Cup.
At the same time, all the attention has caused football fans to go out of their way to secure the captain’s armband.
The producers behind the captain’s armband, which has put enormous pressure on Fifa and President Gianni Infantino, state that they are now sold out, writes Reuters.
The Dutch company that produces the captain’s armbands says that the sales boom began in the days before the World Cup, and almost exploded when the “One Love” captain’s armbands really grabbed the headlines when the group stage started.
The company, which is located in Utrecht, states that they have sold out the entire stock of 10,000 “One Love” captain’s bandages in the last two weeks.
– The biggest sales boom actually came when the World Cup started and when FIFA made its statement that they would not allow the captains to wear these captain’s armbands, says director of Badge Direct BV, Roland Heerkens, according to Reuters.
TV 2 has been in contact with major sports equipment in Norway, including Intersport, who state that the “One Love” captain’s armband has not yet been offered to the Norwegian market.
TV 2 expert: – Cult
TV 2 expert Mina Finstad Berg thinks it’s cool that football fans in Europe go out of their way to secure the aforementioned captain’s armband.
– It is first and foremost cool, and may be a sign that football people all around want to show their support for the “One Love” message, and at the same time show that they are very angry at Fifa, says Finstad Berg to TV 2.
– So it can be a combination. They want to support a good cause, and will personally show their protest against Fifa, which they are probably quite fed up with, she points out.
– Are you surprised that the manufacturer reports out of stock?
– Not really. The football fans will support a bigger campaign and this is probably a backlash. It has received enormous attention from the players, who are great role models, and many fans probably want to show their support, she replies.
Threatened with sanctions
The “One Love” captain’s armband, which shows its support for inclusion and LGBTQ people, was actually supposed to be used by Denmark, England and Belgium and several other countries during the World Cup finals in Qatar.
But then, as is well known, FIFA came on the field and banned the use of the bandage, and threatened Denmark and the other teams with sporting sanctions if it was used during the matches.
Afterwards, the reactions were strong.
– We are in an extraordinary situation right now. I’m not just disappointed, I’m mad. I have never experienced anything like this, said the Danish association’s chairman Jesper Møller.
The German Football Association (DFB) is considering appealing the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), which has a standing panel in Qatar to be able to quickly deal with cases related to the World Cup.
DFB spokesperson Steffen Simon confirms above Picture that they want to see if Fifa’s ban is legal.
– Fifa has forbidden us to show a symbol of diversity and human rights. They combined this with massive threats of sporting sanctions without specifying them. The DFB is checking whether this action by Fifa was legal, said Simon.
The OneLove campaign is an anti-discrimination campaign by the Football Associations of England, Wales, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland and was to involve the use of rainbow-coloured captain’s armbands.
