Rebuffed by an elderly lady, the repeat offender refuses to comply and tries to flee the police: a Nice man still sentenced in Monaco
The perimeter of the Place d’Armes does not appear to be a sensitive area in the Principality. However, on July 21, acts of rebellion put this usually quiet place in turmoil.
In the afternoon, at the Monte-Carlo Bar bus stop, a verbal altercation prompted the intervention of the police.
Originally, an elderly lady reprimanded a weirdo about his indecent posture: he had put his feet on the waiting bench, reserved primarily for public transport users.
As the tone rises, the officials, permanently present on the scene to regulate traffic, intervened. They first ask the troublemaker to stop phoning and to justify his identity.
“You pull out a bus passPresident Florestan Bellinzona told the audience. You continue with this kind of proposal: “You don’t give a damn?” Then you leave, pushing back the agents in order to cross the track. The police will catch you and pin you to the ground in order to handcuff you in the middle of the road. Why does it have to come to such a practice to force you to comply?
The defendant, at the bar, disputed the facts and refuted the seriousness described by the magistrate. “I had no identity card. But above all, I didn’t want to be handcuffed, because I was on sick leave. Clearly, I didn’t resist at all. I just wanted to leave…”

Instant reaction from the president: “We had to stay put. Without presentation of an official document, it makes sense to put in place a more thorough control…”
One of the police officers concerned by this act of rebellion came to confirm the refusal of this construction worker to lend himself to any verification despite the insistence of the officials. “At that moment, he wanted to break usdemonstrated the man in uniform again, showing us an unofficial map. During the handcuffing, my colleague was injured…”
The reminder of the French criminal record of this 24-year-old Niçois, with convictions for violence, thefts in meetings, outrages, death threats, concealment of theft and narcotics, demonstrated his tendency to easily use a hot temper.
The counsel for the civil parties in turn returned to the offense of rebellion and the lawyer highlighted the disturbance to public order. “Until having to handcuff the individual in the middle of the road for a simple check of papers. It is absolutely necessary to sanction these unacceptable behaviors!”he concluded, before claiming a sum of 2,000 euros for his two clients.
“He prevented an elderly lady from sittingspecified the first substitute Valérie Sagné at the time of requesting. He is aggressive. He continues to challenge control and refuse coercion. Arrested in his flight, between two cars, he showed extraordinary behavior. Until caused a three-day ITT by blessing a policeman. I’m offering a two-month suspended sentence.”
The court will go beyond the requisitions of the public prosecutor with three months, always accompanied by the reprieve.
