Report: Free from Expo Amsterdam
AMSTERDAM – The Free From Expo is taking place in the RAI in Amsterdam today and tomorrow. This fair focuses on products that are free of, for example, gluten, lactose, meat, sugar, egg, and so on. The fair also focuses on functional food and ingredients.
Food newspaper visited the fair to get an idea of what is on display. Walking through the fair, the great variety of products was striking. More than 100 exhibitors from a large number of countries present their products at the fair. It is a well-arranged fair where there is plenty of opportunity to exchange ideas with the exhibitors and get to know the products.
Tours
To make it even easier for visitors, there are guided tours of the fair of about an hour led by an expert. Various decked out headphones with headphones are given an explanation about a certain topic and visit the various stands found. There, the exhibitors themselves are given the time to explain their products. For even more depth, there are three stages where various presentations by experts are given throughout the day. Each stage has its own focus area. Special attention is paid to innovation and start-ups. A number of them have been put together in the special start-up pavilion.
The variety of products at the fair is enormous. From licorice to tea, from gluten-free croissants and ice cream cones to gluten-free beer. And then various snacks such as vegetarian bitterballen, licorice and cookies. There is almost no category that is not present.
Dutch
Dutch controls are well represented. Food newspaper spoke to a number of them. Finn Karels of Cowless said that his product, fresh nut milk, has only been on the market for a few weeks. It is important to him that the product tastes good. As a lover of real cow’s milk, it is a must for him.
Roel Orsel of Zero Carb and baker Wiltink have developed a bread product that contains neither gluten nor carbohydrates. Due to regulations, it cannot be called bread here, so it will be in stores next year as Yam Keto. Yam is the gluten-free brand of baker Wiltink, who is also present at the fair.
Gluten-free bakery products are well represented at the Free From. Gluten-free Bakery Holland may not be a well-known name. They produce many private label gluten-free baking products for various supermarket chains. In addition, they produce gluten-free semi-finished products for other manufacturers.
Soon we will go into more detail about the producers we speak to at the fair.
