New obstacle for shooting in Châteauroux with a view to Paris 2024
Since the formalization of the move of the shooting events from La Courneuve (Seine-Saint-Denis) to Châteauroux (Indre), on July 12, worries quickly gave way to euphoria for the main players. The puzzle mainly consisted of finding six hundred beds, requested by Paris 2024, within a 20-minute perimeter around the National Sports Shooting Center (CNTS) in Châteauroux-Déols where 340 athletes will compete during the Olympic Games and 180 during the Paralympics. The difficulty has recently gone up a notch with the abandonment, by the French Shooting Federation, of the construction of its permanent accommodation center, with 80 to 100 rooms, attached to the CNTS.
” The cost was huge considering the number of rooms on offer. And since there were too many uncertainties about community grants, this endangered the Federation “, explains Michel Baczyk, its president. He thus evokes a debt ratio of 98% in the event of realization of the project, untenable for the Federation. The manager hoped to finance almost half of the €17 million investment thanks to grants from local authorities. It also depended on the location requested from the Paris 2024 Games Organizing Committee for the provision of the CNTS. But of the €12 million claimed from the OCOG, the FFTir will probably only receive €4 million. An agreement should be reached before the Paris 2024 board of directors on December 12.

The spectators expected by the FFTir during the shooting events, expected from July 27 to August 5, 2024, and from August 30 to September 5 to appear.
The troubles are not over for the FFTir which had already started work, in particular leveling, for the construction of this accommodation center. ” We are awaiting the assessment of the costs already incurred and the amount of the waiver penalties because I do not think that Bouygues will give us a penny. “Explains, on condition of anonymity, a member of the management. The launch, then the abandonment of the project, thus revived the internal quarrels within a federation where certain League presidents do not hesitate to address themselves directly to the Ministry of Sports and the Olympic and Paralympic Games, member of the committee management of the file with Paris 2024 and the local authorities, to obtain information.
It remains to be seen what will be the plan B now favored by this “Copil”, after the volte-face of the FFTir which had the gift of annoying the other actors. In addition to accommodation, they will have to find a solution for the catering of the athletes. ” I have given my agreement for modular accommodation on the CNTS site “, explains Michel Baczyk. There is indeed room to build a mini-village for the athletes on the site. The other option is to rent accommodation which is opposite the CNTS, on the other side of the road, within the Pôle d’enseignement supérieur international (Pesi), property of Peking University, where hundreds of students in the country before the Covid epidemic.
” There are 365 studios, refurbished three and five years ago. They are accessible to people with reduced mobility and today they are empty “, explained Gil Avérous, mayor of Châteauroux and president of the metropolis in “the New Republic”, specifying that Paris 2024 could rent them to Peking University. It remains to be seen at what price while the OCOG is in the midst of a budget review and must announce, this Tuesday, the amount of savings to be made and on what objects. The city of Châteauroux is going to rehabilitate the annexes of the deconsecrated chapel of Saint-Denis and has proposed a support plan to hoteliers to move upmarket and welcome the Olympic family.
