Detonated two large World War II bombs

The two 500-kilogram bombs from World War II posed a security risk and were therefore detonated outside Sønderborg on Als in Denmark.
On Wednesday 16 November, a controlled detonation was carried out for large bombers from the Second World War outside Sønderborg on Als in Denmark. The bombs were found outside in a field on 26 October.

In order to avoid an uncontrolled detonation of the bombs on a later occasion, it was for safety reasons that the bombs were blown up, writes the Danish defense in a press release.
After closer examination of a bomb on Tuesday 15 November, an assessment was made that the detonation had to be accelerated and that the bombs had to be defused as quickly as possible.

The Danish armed forces carried out the explosion in cooperation with the home and the police. The two bombs weighed around 500 kilograms each. The bombs are said to have come from a British Halifax bomber that was shot down during World War II.
